Bat Mitzvah Club

  • Goals

The goal of the Bat Mitzvah Club is to unite 6th and 7th grade girls from across the London area to discover what it means to become a Bat Mitzvah through crafts, scrapbooking, music, discussions and more.

We aim to give our girls a space to make close, safe, and meaningful connections with peers in the same situation as them. We want our girls to know that they are not alone in their beliefs even though they are one of the only Jewish students in their class.

We aim to empower girls to own their Judaism and make it a part of their lives through learning and positive Jewish experiences.

    Session Information

8 Monthly Sessions | October– May

1 hour and 30 minutes monthly

Each session will include interactive learning, scrapbooking of our learning, an activity or craft connected to the learning, guest speakers on relevant topics, refreshments, music, volunteer opportunities and more.

    Lesson Overview

The Bat Mitzvah Club is a two year cycle. In the first lesson we will learn what it means to be a Bat Mitzvah. The next lessons will go through Jewish women throughout history and what we can learn from them in connection to our lives. We will explore how seemingly ancient biblical characters are in fact relevant and positive influences in our lives. We will then learn about modern day Jewish women and take lessons from their lives as well.

The second year will explore various mitzvot and Jewish holidays. We will draw inspiration from them and create unique pieces that will help in our practical application of our mitzvah observance.

    Optional Volunteering

We will also be arranging community service volunteer opportunities for girls that would like to get involved in the community and create a positive impact in a tangible way. These may include volunteering at the Community Chanukah Event, visiting the sick or elderly, baking and delivering challah, creating care packages or mishloach manot for those in need and the like.

    Shabbat Dinner

We will be hosting a Bat Mitzvah Club Friday night dinner for families later in the year. Girls will assist with the challah baking and décor for the dinner.

    Cumulative B'not Mitzvah

At the end of the year, we will be hosting a Sunday morning brunch for all mothers, daughters, sisters, and grandmothers to conclude the sessions and share what we’ve learned.
